Still Running

I haven't posted here in a long time. I made a training schedule for myself to follow with some goal times. Today I ran .5 miles less than I planned, but I was close to my target time, 8:00 miles.

2 2 mile runs

Today and yesterday I ran 2 miles. Not exactly sure on the times because my watch failed me both days. :( It is charging now and getting ready for tomorrow's 3 mile run.

lazy week

This week I only ran two times out of four scheduled. Once on Tuesday, where I tried to get a 13 min 2 mile, but I got burned out at 1.5 miles and I was way behind on my time. Here is the GPS data.

Today, I ran 4 miles in 29:51 which I was pretty happy about. I am in St George, where I plan to run the marathon. I was worried about the air being thinner making it harder to breath, but I was able to take 2:57 off of my 4 mile run time. Of course, it helped that I ran the first mile down hill. I am proud of that 5:38 first mile though.

Edit: I just noticed that I actually ran about .3 miles less than this shows. It took a minute or two for the GPS data to actually sync up. I'll have to try stretching more. This is the first time I have had a problem like this. So technically, i probably would have gotten about 31:00 4 miles.

Long run Saturday - 4 miles

Today was the long run for the week. I did 4 miles in 32:36. I wanted to do an average of 32:00, but no luck. I plan to do long runs every Saturday. Today marks the beginning of a lot of painful Saturdays.

3 mile run

I started out this run today with a goal to finish in 22:30 or an average of 7:30 min miles. I didn't quite get my goal, but I am happy with my time, 22:47. That shows about a minute and 30 second improvement over my 3 mile run a week ago.

2 mile treadmill

Today I did a treadmill run so no Garmin GPS data. I don't know if it is the time constantly staring me in the face, the treadmill itself, the lack of incline, or what exactly, but I tend to do better training on the treadmill compared to on the hard ground. Of course, I usually do better in races than the treadmill because of all the adrenaline flowing through my blood.

So my time today was 13:33 compared to 15:48 just a week ago... Getting closer to that 13 min 2 miles.

3 miles

So today I set out to do 3 miles in 24:15 or less. I want to eventually get my 3 mile run down to 20 min, but as my wife says, you have to learn jog before you run. I guess in my case you have to relearn to jog before you relearn to run. I actually beat my goal time by 1 second, which I was pretty proud of. Especially considering that I did the same run two weeks ago and my time was 26:29.

The track I ran on is a nice trail just north of the medical center. I like running in the trees and being away from the city without having to go too far. The only downside to this area is that I got my wallet stolen last time I was here. I had to triple check that the car was locked, and I never even had my wallet out before I started my run. If I can ever feel safe here again, I think I will do a bit of my training at this park. With 2.33 mile long loops, I won't feel like I am running around in endless circles like at a track.

Training for St George Marathon

I signed up to run the St George Marathon this year.  I started my training today.  Ran 2 miles in 15:37 and nearly threw up.  I remember a day when I could do it in 13 min and feel fine afterwards... I'll have to train some more.

Lindsay got me this Garmin forerunner 405 for Christmas, and it will keep track of my runs and then let me post them online.  So that is the point of this blog.  Mostly for me because I don't plan on telling people about it.  But, I will be more motivated if I know I have to post my results for the world to see.

Here is my first run.
